2. Mission/goals of the Forum

The "Letter of Intent" sent to all interested institutions was DE and WR's draft for the mission statement of the Forum. It was the starting point of the discussion on the definition of the goal of the Forum. The Forum's organisation and mission is based on that of the Dutch "Onderzoekschool".

Discussion of the objectives of the Forum:

(1) Enhancement of the quality of scientific education and research in fundamental and applied aspects of plasma physics

(2) Co-ordination of scientific research in the field of plasma physics and co-operation with respect tot the curricula, quality assessment, execution of research programs and research projects and the use of infrastructure

(3) Teaching, supervision and assessment of research assistants who are working at the universities within the co-operation

It is important to have a comprehensive database of plasma teaching in Belgium [WR].

(4) Joint organisation of courses, seminars, colloquia, lectures, publications, conferences and other media which may serve the realisation of the objective
